Chris Paterson

Chris Paterson is my next member of my Rugby top 5. He in my eyes is a Scotland legend, gaining 109 caps and scoring 809 points he is Scotland's highest points earner.
For many of you rugby fanatics out there, you may question this decision. Why have I pick him? Well, For me, Paterson was one of the most underated players. He will always be known for his kicking abilities, but he had several other strengths which many would brush aside.

Playing most of his career for Edinburgh, Paterson was a fan favourite and was well respected at his profession, which may indicate why his new job is the Specialist Coach for Edinburgh and Scotland rugby.

Paterson retired from professional rugby last year, something which saddened me as in my opinion I still feel he had a few more years left in him.

Another reason for why I like Chris Paterson is, he's a Scot. Having a player of his ability playing for your nation was good, knowing he could change games and be the difference in a win or a loss.

His pace and tackling were not always mentioned during his playing career. Probably due to the fact that he was the best penalty/conversion kicker in the world.

The final reason for why I feel Paterson deserves to be up there with the best rugby players ever is purely his personality. Paterson was a fair player, well respected by his team mates and opposition, you would never here of him cheating, or provoking others. He done his job well and fairly. I think that is what I admire most about him.

Just incase you don't agree with me saying he was good at tackling here is a wee link to prove my point :)
